About the Staff

The art department has a structure of staff that is built upon an individual speciality within a certain area of art, that works together to build up a selective range of courses that relate to Art and Design.  The departments range from lower to a higher level courses such as BTEC to Further Education.  There are a vast range of tutors within the department that specialise in different courses that are assisted by technicians.

 

The department ranges in different areas that relate to the form of Art & Design, these areas are as followed: -

  • Fine Art

  • Photography

  • Ceramics

  • Textiles

  • Graphics

  • Printmaking

  • Art Theory

 

These specific areas shown above are taught within the Art department at different levels, these levels consist from a low level all the way up to a higher level.  These different level qualifications are as followed:-

  • BTEC National Diploma Level

  • Foundation Diploma Level

  • A Level

  • Degree Level

 

There is a fourth level of Merthyr Tydfil College that is situated just for the Art Department.  The fourth floor has individual base rooms that are used for a variety of different levels and there are other rooms used as classrooms for every student to use when they are timetabled in.  The classrooms are used for certain subjects such as a room just used for ceramics and some classrooms that are used to use the MAC facilities for Photoshop, which allows each art student the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and skills of different fields within the art spectrum.

  • Jacquie Jones that specialises within the field of Textiles

  • Kath Evans that specialises within the field of Photography

 

The full time technician of the Art & Design department is:

Luis specialises in the workshop and maintain order within classrooms.
